GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Davenport Women's Rugby team opens up the program's second season ever as they host Ferris State on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. Head coach Greg Teliczan looks to build upon an exceptional first year, where they finished with an overall 16-8 record and third in the ACRA 7s National Championships.

Previewing the Players
 
The Panthers bring back numerous key players from last year, one of which includes sophomore standout Danielle Ordway. Ordway led the team last year with a staggering 309 total points, which included 55 tries. During the offseason, Ordway participated in the U20 USA All-American team, where she played with different girls from all around the country to compete against the U20 Canadian team. Newcomer Ashlee Byrge was also apart of the All-American team and looks to make a huge impact for the Panthers in her first year with the team. 
 
Sophomores Hannah Tennant and Hunter Moreland also return this season, as they try to lead a very young Panther team to an even better second campaign. Tennant recorded 148 total points last year, and converted 65 out of her 98 conversions attempted. Moreland finished second on the team in tries with 27, and was third on the team in total points with 135.
 
Previewing the Schedule
 
This season the Panthers play a total of eight games, six of which are home. The first three games are all at home and come against Ferris State, Michigan, and conference rival Lindenwood. The Panthers were 2-0 against Lindenwood last year, and hope to continue that trend when they play September 13. Another date to mark your calendars for is the game against Calvin College on October 10. This will be the first ever homecoming game for the Lady Panthers, and will be the first time these two teams play each other.
 
Scouting Ferris State
 
The Panthers have a good amount of experience against Ferris State, for they faced them last year three different times. The Panthers were 3-0 against the Bulldogs, and finished with a combined score of 174-5.
