GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Davenport women's rugby team had waited all summer to get back out on the field and improve upon their 16-8 record from last season. The Lady Panthers put on a clinic in front of a good crowd Saturday night at the DU Turf Field, shutting out Ferris State 85-0.
Danielle Ordway ran wild on the Bulldogs as she scored a total of five tries, including the first try of the night just 20 seconds into the game. Six different Panthers found themselves in the try zone during the first half alone as Davenport went into halftime with a demanding 39-0 lead.
The Panther offense continued their dominance in the second half as five different girls made their way past the try-line, making it 11 different Panthers recording tries on the night.
Hannah Tennant was 5-11 on conversions, totaling 15 points on the night for the Panthers.
Ashlee Byrge and
Danielle Ordway also got in on the conversion action, but could not manage to put it through the uprights.
Davenport will look to build upon this exceptional victory next week Thursday as they stay home to host the University of Michigan. Kickoff starts at 7 p.m.
