ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Davenport men's basketball team wrapped up their three game road stretch to start 2015, as they traveled to Ann Arbor to face Concordia, where the winner would take a hold of first place in the WHAC.
Dominez Burnett tied his career-high with 31 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Panthers to a 78-72 win over Concordia to move atop the WHAC standings. Davenport will be back in action on Wednesday as they host Lourdes on Wednesday night at the DU Student Center at 7:30 p.m.
Dominez Burnett tied his career-high of 31 points, which he set over the holiday break at the Saint Xavier Midwest Tournament against Saint Ambrose. Burnett also grabbed seven rebounds in the game, while
Bishop Robinson led the team with nine rebouds and scoring 15 points in the game.
Kevin Rich scored 17 points for Davenport as he shot 3-for-5 from behind the arc.
Concordia started the game out scoring the first ten points of the game before
Dawid Czerniawski got the Panthers on the board with 16:15 left in the first half. Concordia continued to shoot the ball throughout the first half as they shot an even 50 percent from the field and wen 9-for-19 from behind the arc. Davenport tried to inch their way back into the game as they trailed by as many as 17 points, but cut the lead to 42-31 at halftime.
The Panthers started to make a comeback right out the half, as Davenport cut the Concordia lead to three points just 2:01 into the second half. Davenport then went on 16-0 run to take a 60-50 lead over Concordia with 8:56 left in the second half, and in the midst of the run the Panthers took their first lead of the game with 12 minutes left in regulation. Davenport was able to close out the game shooting 50 percent from the field to beat Concordia 78-72, and take over first place in the WHAC.
The Panthers will return home for the first time in 2015 as they host Lourdes on Wednesday night at the DU Student Center with the tip scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
