GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – For the first time in just over a month the Davenport men's basketball team returned home to face Lourdes on Wednesday night.
Kevin Rich led the team with 18 points and was 5-for-7 from behind the arc as the Panthers were able to beat Lourdes 79-41. The Panthers move to 16-3 on the season and is 10-1 in the WHAC to lead the conference by a half game. Davenport will be back in action on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Dearborn, Mich., to face former Davenport assistant coach Taylor Langley and Michigan-Dearborn.
Kevin Rich tied his career-high for three-point field goals made with five, as he went 5-for-7 from behind the arc and finished the game with 18 points to lead the team.
Dominez Burnett had ten points for the Panthers while going 3-for-6 from the field and 4-for-4 from the free throw line. As a team, Davenport shot 52.9 percent from the floor and shot 45.5 percent from three.
Davenport started the game on a 17-2 run in the first 7:01 of the game capped off by a three pointer from
Thomas Drew. The Panthers continued to stretch their lead throughout the half as they took their largest lead of the half at 46-16 with 1:05 left in the half as the Panthers took a 46-18 lead into the half. Davenport shot 61.5 percent from the field in the first half and was 7-for-14 from behind the arc.
In the second half, Davenport tried to stretch their lead even more as the took a 71-31 lead with 7:20 left in the game, but Lourdes was able to keep the Panthers at ease in the second half allowing DU to score just 33 points in the half. Davenport held Lourdes to just 26.4 percent from the field, while allowing just 41 points in the game, which are both season lows for any Davenport opponent as the Panthers went on to win 79-41.
The Panthers will return to action on Saturday afternoon as they face Michigan-Dearborn at 3 p.m. in Dearborn, Mich., to start the second half of the WHAC season.
Post-Game NotesThe 38 point margin for the Panthers was the largest win margin for the team this season, and was largest margin of victory for Davenport since December 16, 2013 against Grace Bible… Lourdes shot 26.4 percent from the field, which is a new season low for a Davenport opponent this season along with the 41 points scored.
