Road Test against Michigan-Dearborn up Next for Men’s Basketball

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – After making a brief appearance at home on Wednesday night against Lourdes, the fifth-ranked Davenport men's basketball team will hit the road once again as they head to the east side of the state to face Michigan-Dearborn to start the second half of their WHAC schedule. Tipoff is slated for 3 p.m. on Saturday afternoon in Dearborn, Mich., at the Michigan-Dearborn Fieldhouse, as Ken Clemens will have the call live on the DAN.

A Quick Look at Michigan-Dearborn – 6-12, 3-8 WHAC – Head Coach Taylor Langley
Through 17 games this season, first year head coach Taylor Langley has guided the Wolverines to a 6-12 overall record this season. The Wolverines leading scorer is Jamiel Strickland as he averages 12.7 points per game, while Darryl Mabley, Jr. has chipped in with 11.4 points per game, mainly coming off the bench. Paul Standke is the leading rebounder, as he grabs 7.0 boards a game as the team averages 34.8 rebounds per game, which they out rebound their opponent by one rebound per game. Michigan-Dearborn ranks fifth in the NAIA in total blocks with 85, and is seventh in blocks per game as they average 4.72 per game.
 
Panthers vs. Wolverines
Davenport leads the all-time series against Michigan-Dearborn winning 17 of the 24 meetings between the two programs. The Wolverines were able to win the first four consecutive meeting and won six of the first eight meetings. The Panthers have won the last 12 meetings and have won 15 of the last 16 meetings. The last time the Wolverines were able to beat the Panthers was on February 26, 2009, when Michigan-Dearborn was able to edge out Davenport 72-71 in double overtime at the DU Student Center.
 
The Last Time Against the Wolverines
The last time Davenport and Michigan-Dearborn met was in the final game of the first semester for the Panthers as they hosted the Wolverines at the DU Student Center. This was also the first time former Davenport assistant coach and first year head coach, Taylor Langley returned to the DU Student Center to face his former team. Davenport jumped out to a 37-26 lead at halftime and they continued to pull away from Michigan-Dearborn in the second half as DU went on to win the game 81-52. Dominez Burnett led the Panthers with 28 points and eight rebounds, while Jason Jordan chipped in with 14 points off the bench. Jason Penn tallied a double-double for the Wolverines with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
