GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Davenport men's basketball team will wrap up a two game road swing on Wednesday night when they travel to Siena Heights. Davenport comes into the match up with a 17-3 record overall and is atop the WHAC standing with an 11-1 record after they defeat Michigan-Dearborn last Saturday. Christian Covile leads the team in scoring with 12.6 points per game, while George Goodman and Jerrell Martin round out players in double figures for the Saints with 11.1 and 10.2 points, respectively. The Saints rank 13th in the NAIA in total blocks with 77 on the season, and Martin leads the team with 47, which ranks him sixth as an individual. Last time the Saints were in action was at home against Northwestern Ohio and the Racers were to beat the Saints 78-64.
Panthers vs. SaintsIn the all-time series between Davenport and Siena Heights, the Panthers lead the series 15-8. Siena Heights won the first six meetings and won eight of the first ten meetings between the two programs. The Panthers have since won have since won the last 13 meetings in the series to take the series lead. The last time the Saints beat the Panthers was on January 28, 2009 in Adrian, Mich., where Siena Heights was able to sneak past Davenport by the score of 64-59.
The Last Time Against the SaintsIn the last meeting between Davenport and Siena Heights was earlier this season in Grand Rapids, Mich., in early December. The Panthers were able to run past the Saints by the score of 89-55. To start the game neither team could pull away until halfway through the first half when Davenport started to pull away, and DU took a 46-25 lead into the half. In the second half the Panthers continued to play strong defense against the Saints allowing them to shoot just 33.3 percent from the field for the game. Thomas Drew led the way with 15 points off the bench, and the bench scored a total of 55 points for the Panthers in the victory over the Saints.
