Men’s Basketball Returns to Action with a Pair of WHAC Road Games

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – After concluding 2014 with a 2-1 record at the Saint Xavier Midwest Tournament, the Davenport men's basketball team will return to action Monday on the road against Marygrove. The Panthers will play two games in three days after they have been away from action for the last 12 days. DU will then hit the road again on Wednesday when travel to Southfield, Mich., to face Lawrence Tech. Rick Berkey will have the call live on the DAN for both games on Monday and Wednesday.

A Quick Look at Marygrove – 3-12, 1-6 WHAC – Head Coach Craig Covington
The Mustangs enter the game with 3-12 overall record and are 1-6 in the WHAC with their only conference win coming against Lawrence Tech in their final WHAC game of 2014. The Mustangs score 72.9 points per game, but they allow 82.3 point a game and Darryll Dixon leads the team in scoring with 20.5 point per game, which is second best in the WHAC. Diante Taylor and Kenneth Miller also average double figures in points for the Mustangs as Taylor scores 14.5 points per game and Miller chips in 11.9 points. Jujuan Armstrong leads the team in rebounding, as he grabs 7.2 rebounds per game, as the Mustangs grab 33.1 boards per game, but they get outrebounded by an average of 9.8 rebounds a game.

A Quick Look at Lawrence Tech – 3-13, 0-8 WHAC – Head Coach Tom Kempf
Lawrence Tech comes into the week in search of their first conference win as they sit at 0-8 in the WHAC after a loss to 12th-ranked Cornerstone in Grand Rapids last Saturday. The Blue Devils are 3-13 on the season and they grabbed their first win at home in their last home appearance, beating NCAA DIII squad Adrian, 77-60. Lawrence Tech is fourth in the WHAC in scoring defense as they allow the opposition just 65.7 points a game, but the Blue Devils have struggled on the offensive end just scoring 59.8 point per game this season. Jake Mullin is the only player for Lawrence Tech to average double figures as he puts up 10.4 points per game.
 
The Panthers will start 2015 with a pair WHAC road games against Marygrove at 8 p.m. on Monday followed by a game at Lawrence Tech on Wednesday at 8 p.m.
