DU Sweeps No. 24 Indiana Wesleyan to Cap Panther Invitational

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Panthers finished their play in the Panther Invite with matchups against No. 25 Carroll College and No. 24 Indiana Wesleyan University. DU responded after a loss to open the day with an impressive sweep of the 24th ranked Wildcats as they now stand at 15-14 on the season.

Davenport took out Carroll, 25-15, in set two to even the match and swung the momentum in favor of the Panthers. Carroll would manage to overcome DU with consecutive 25-15 set wins to take the match, 3-1. Marcey DeHaan and Molly Lameyer led the attack with 22 combined kills while Sydney Tracer added 33 assists. Emma Matthew led the defense with 22 digs and Ashley VanderHorst totaled three blocks.

The Panthers then took on No. 24 Indiana Wesleyan in their final match of the day. The Wildcats came into the game with an 18-4 overall record while the Panthers entered 14-14. DU jumped out early on IWU with a 10-to-5 early lead in set one and they did not look back. Lameyer would lead the attack with 11 kills and a .440 hitting percentage. The Panthers would go on to sweep the Wildcats as they held IWU to a .157 hitting perentage. Matthew and Morgan Torres combined for 28  digs and VanderHorst recorded six blocks to lead the defense. The Panthers took a 7-0 run in set two to overcome a 18-12 deficit as they took the commanding 2-0 lead in the match. DU would secure its sweep of the Wildcats following a 25-20 victory in the final game.
