Box Score EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - The men's Division II hockey team came up just short in their season opener with three late goals in a 4-3 loss at SIUE on Friday. That momentum carried into Saturday's game as the Panthers posted an 8-3 win over the Cougars to even the weekend series. Zac Bodziak had a big night with a hat trick in the win. He scored the first goal for DU in the first period at the 3:38 mark with assists by Austin Flores and Daniel Swink. His second goal came at 8:15 of the second period with Flores and Alex Stewart on the assists. The third goal came at 3:10 of the third period from Swink and Chris McRae.

Kyle McConnell gave DU a 2-0 lead at the 12:08 mark of the first period on the power play from Swink and Trevor Murray. The Cougars clawed back into the game and trailed 4-3 in the second period. The Panthers scored the game's final four goals, all in the third period, to close out the first win of the season. Christian Thompson made 34 saves on the night. Brendan Burton, Donald Sund and Rick Cigile also scored a goal in the contest coming in the third period.
