DU Wins Battle of Panthers 89-68

Senior Dominez Burnett scored 30 points including his 2,000th career point with 8:29 left in the 1st half

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Senior forward Dominez Burnett (Flint, Mich./Northwestern) eclipsed 2,000 career points on Tuesday night in Davenport's 89-68 win over visiting Purdue-North Central. Burnett scored his milestone points with 8:29 left in the first half as play was halted to announce the achievement. He is the all-time leading scorer in program history and is the only men's basketball player at DU to reach that plateau. Burnett finished the game with a team-high 30 points (two shy of his career-high) and went 12-of-19 from the floor. He also grabbed eight rebounds (all defensive) and collected four steals and two assists. He currently stands at 2,020 career points.

Junior forward John McCloud recorded his first career double-double with 12 points and a career-high 13 rebounds (previous high was eight). He grabbed 10 offensive boards and was 6-of-9 from the floor. Junior guard Braima Hai set a new career-high with 16 points going 6-of-8 (3-of-5 3FG) from the floor and also had a 3-to-1 assist/turnover ratio at the point. Junior forward Kevin Rich was also in double figures with 10 points in 26 minutes. Davenport shot 52.9 percent (36-of-68) from the floor including 55.9 percent (19-of-34) in the second half. Purdue-North Central shot 44.1 percent (26-of-59) from the floor and were outrebounded 41-30 by Davenport who had 16 offensive rebounds and a 21-9 edge in second-chance points. DU also had a 48-32 advantage scoring in the paint. PNC never led in the contest and DU led by as many as 23 points with 2:15 left in the game.
