GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport University men's basketball team used a 31-4 run over the final 9:46 of the first half to turn a tight one into a blowout against Marygrove in the WHAC opener. Davenport (3-0, 1-0) led 16-14 with 9:46 left in the opening half and then began to turn up the defensive intensity with full court pressure. The Mustangs turned the ball over 28 times in the contest and the Panthers scored 42 points off of those miscues. Marygrove (0-3, 0-1) on the other hand scored just seven points off turnovers. Senior
Dominez Burnett - currently ranked fourth in NAIA Division II in scoring - led the team with 26 points on 10-of-15 shooting from the floor and also grabbed six rebounds. Senior
Wayne Bradford scored 18 points going 3-of-4 from the arc and 5-of-5 at the free throw line. Junior
Braima Hai scored 11 points and connected on 3-of-4 from deep. Senior
Jason Jordan scored 10 points off the bench and also led the team with four steals. Marygrove shot 33.3 percent from the floor (21-of-63) and 50 percent at the charity stripe (8-of-16). Davenport shot 52.4 percent from the floor (33-of-63) and have shot 52 percent or better each game this season. They also connected on 13-of-33 (.394) from the arc and 20-of-26 (.769) at the free throw line.
Nick Gamble also had a solid game tying a career-high with seven assists and also scored seven points and grabbed five boards.
