Panthers Beat Indiana Tech 83-63 Behind Big Second Half

DU (4-0, 2-0) outscored the Warriors 51-29 in the final 20 minutes

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - After a sluggish first half, the Davenport men's basketball team outscored Indiana Tech 51-29 in the second half for an 83-63 win on Saturday afternoon. The Panthers (4-0, 2-0) shot 36.7 percent in the first half and responded in the second half by shooting 54.8 percent to finish 28-of-61 (.459) for the game. The Warriors were held to just 25 percent shooting (7-of-28) in the second half and 32.8 percent for the game. The two-headed monster of Dominez Burnett and Wayne Bradford combined to score 45 points as Burnett was right at this season average with 27 and Bradford hit for 18. Burnett shot 7-of-13 from the floor and 13-of-15 at the free throw line and also had eight rebounds and three steals in 31 minutes. Bradford tied his season-high with 18 points on 7-of-12 from the floor and had six rebounds, three assists and three steals. Indiana Tech (2-2, 0-1) has now lost nine straight to the Panthers.

Miles Robinson kept his team in the game in the first half as the Warriors led 34-32 marking the first time Davenport had trailed at the break this season. Robinson finished with a game-high 25 points including 17 in the second half. The Warriors scored the first five points of the game before Davenport used a 9-0 run to take a 9-5 lead. Davenport increased their lead to 25-14 with 9:24 left in the first half but the Warriors closed the half on a 20-7 run capped off by a Robinson triple as time expired in the half.

The Panthers scored the first nine points of the second half and never trailed again. Burnett hit a pair of free throws and a layup to start the half and Bradford had a three-pointer and layup for the seven-point lead. DU raced out to a 17-point lead with 12:03 left as Jason Jordan hit a jumper right after John McCloud threw down a putback dunk. The lead grew to 20 points at 70-50 with 6:52 left and the Warriors got the lead under 20 just two times the rest of the way.

Davenport had a 18-4 edge in the paint in the second half and outscored ITU 13-3 in points off turnovers. Kevin Rich scored 10 points and grabbed five rebounds in 31 minutes. Jordan provided a spark off the bench with 12 points and four rebounds in 19 minutes. Davenport took great care of the ball after double-digit turnovers in their first three games with five while they dished out 14 assists. Davenport led for 35:16 out of 40 minutes in the contest.
