Kevin Rich set a career-high with six three-pointers (11 attempts) and was one point shy of his career-high with 22 points in a 78-67 loss to Indiana-East on Tuesday night. Rich led the team in scoring for the first time this season going 8-of-16 from the floor and single-handedly kept the Panthers in the game during a stretch in the second half. Dominez Burnett scored 15 points but could not find his touch going just 2-of-8 in the second half. He finished with a team-high eight rebounds and a team-high five assists. Junior guard
Braima Hai scored 12 points including eight in the second half going 5-of-8 from the floor for the game.
Indiana-East improved their record to 6-4 and shot the ball very well going 12-of-24 from behind the arc. Lucas Huffman was saddled with two fouls in just two minutes of the first half and did not score. He woke up in the second half with 11 points including 3-of-5 from the arc. Huston Clark had a couple of highlight reel jams in the second half and finished with 16 points, seven rebounds, five blocks and four assists. Jacoby Claypool played a steady point with 16 points, four assists and two steals for the Red Wolves, who were a preseason No. 10 team. IU-East shot 53.8 percent overall (28-of-52) for the game and were 10-of-13 at the free throw line. Davenport shot a season-low 11 free throws making eight for 72.7 percent. Both teams scored 28 points in the paint in a game that featured five ties and four lead changes. The Red Wolves led 37-33 at halftime and did not relinquish the lead in the second half. Rich made three straight triples in a span of nearly two minutes as DU trailed 55-52 with 8:32 to play. The Panthers would get within three points twice more including 60-57 with 5:33 remaining. IU-East closed out the game on an 18-10 run. The team is back in action tomorrow night as they host Siena Heights in a WHAC game at 7:30 p.m.
