GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The women's basketball team got back on the court for the first time in eight days and you wouldn't know it as they defeated Siena Heights 88-51 on Wednesday night at the DU Student Center. The No. 8 Panthers improved to 6-2 overall and 5-0 in the WHAC and extended their win streak to six games. Davenport also defeated Siena Heights for the 19th straight time and are now 22-2 against the Saints all-time. The first quarter started slowly for the Panthers as they led 16-12 after 10 minutes. The score was tied three times with two lead changes. DU started to open up a double-digit lead at 25-14 just 1:18 into the second quarter.
Lauren Brower made a three-pointer and followed that with a layup.
Emily Severn canned a three-pointer on the right wing and the Saints called a 30-second timeout. Jaaliyah Arrington cut the lead below double figures with a pair of free throws with 6:39 left in the second. DU continued to press the issue for the rest of the quarter and led 40-27 at intermission.
The lead ballooned to 20 points at 54-34 with 5:45 left in the third quarter after another Brower triple.
Chri Carter converted a three-point play with 5:04 left in the quarter for a 23-point lead at 57-34. Davenport led 65-46 after three quarters and then played stifling defense in the fourth quarter limited the Saints to five points. Davenport shot 37.1 percent in the first half and 51.9 percent in the second half to finish at 43.5 percent (27-of-62). Siena Heights shot 34.6 percent in the first half and just 23.1 percent in the final 20 minutes. DU converted 12-of-26 from behind the arc, one shy of the season-high for makes. DU led for 35:53 of the game and their bench outscored SHU's bench 38-12.
Brower led the Panthers with 14 points going 5-of-10 from the floor including a season-high 4-of-8 from behind the arc.
Alex Law scored 13 points going 4-of-6 from behind the arc with four rebounds and three assists.
Tiesha Stokes scored 11 points and had three steals in just 19 minutes. Severn scored nine points off the bench on 3-of-5 from the arc.
Michaela Faber led the team with eight rebounds. Â Â
