Stokes, Law Fuel 85-78 Comeback Win Over Northwestern Ohio

LIMA, Ohio - The Panthers were averaging a 32-point margin of victory heading into their matchup Saturday afternoon with the Northwestern Ohio Racers. UNOH forced the Panthers into early mistakes as they managed to pull away to a 16-point lead. DU would turn to seniors Alex Law and Tiesha Stokes as they carried the Panthers to a comeback victory and pushed their 2015-16 record ahead to 7-2, 6-0 while they handed the Racers their first conference loss and left their record at 5-4, 4-1.

DU would trail heading into the second quarter as the Racers stifled the Panthers as they took a six-point edge and held DU to 10 points. Law would then come alive in the second quarter as she would hit three shots from behind the arc to help spark the Panther attack. The Panthers would find their offensive stride behind Law as she would lead all scorers at the break with 15 points to help DU score 26 points in the second quarter on the way to a 39-36 score that favored UNOH.

The third quarter is when Stokes would come alive and be the difference maker that allowed the Panthers to stage their comeback. Stokes would score18 points in the third quarter that helped the Panthers pull within four points of the Racers after trailing by as many as 16.

This was the spark that the Panthers needed as they slowly wore the Racers down and eventually took over the lead with 5:36 remaining on an Amanda Merz put back that gave DU the 68-66 lead, their first advantage since leading 4-0 early in the game. The Panthers would not trail again from this point as Stokes would go on to tally 26 points and nine rebounds while Law totaled 21 points, including five three pointers (5-10). DU would hold strong down the final stretch with clutch free throws as they prevailed by an 85-78 final score.
