LIMA, Ohio - The No.3 DU Panthers met Northwestern Ohio Saturday afternoon in what would turn out to be a hard fought battle with the Racers. Offense was hard to come by as each team recorded a season-low in points scored, but the Panthers would outlast UNOH 60-48.
Nick Gamble stepped up big for Davenport in the first half as he would go 4-for-5 from the field to lead all scorers at the break with 11 points. The DU defense would play stout as they forced 14 Racer turnovers for the half and held them to shooting just 40.9% from the field as the Panthers carried a 34-25 halftime lead.
The second half saw
Dominez Burnett turn it on offensively as he would total 15 second half points on his way to a 22-point performance. The Panther defense was relentless all game long as they forced 21 UNOH turnovers and recorded 14 steals while they allowed the Racers to shoot just 37.3% from the field.
The Panthers would take a 34-25 lead to the break and push their lead to as many as 13 points in the second half. UNOH would climb within five points with 8:27 left in the game, but as the Racers looked to cut the game to one possession, but the Panther defense would always respond. Burnett and
Kevin Rich would secure key rebounds down the stretch after clutch defensive stands by the Panthers, and Burnett would hit crucial free throws to put the game out of reach. Burnett went on to record a double-double on 22 points and 14 rebounds.
