STATE UNIVERSITY, Ark. – The Davenport Men's rugby team got off to a winning start Saturday afternoon when they defeated Arkansas State 16-7 in game one of their three game road stretch. The Panthers were back in action for the first time since October 25^th, 2014, and now improve to 6-3 on the 2014-2015 season. Kevin Lydon scored the lone try for the Panthers, as Jean Pierre Eloff converted three penalty kicks and one conversion to account for 11 total points.
 
Davenport got on the board first when Eloff converted a penalty kick right off the bat to put the Panthers up 3-0. The Panthers would then set up their first try of the spring season after good tactical kicking from Brady Gent led to Lydon sneaking through the line for a try under the posts, giving the Panthers a 10-0 lead.
 
Davenport continued to work phases offensively and continued to play patient rugby as they eventually drawing two more Red Wolf penalties, which resulted in two more Eloff penalty kicks. The Panthers went into the halftime break with a demanding 16-0 lead.
 
The action became more back and forth in the second half, as Arkansas Sate finally put themselves on the board by breaking trough on a clearance kick to tally their first try of the game.
 
The Panthers were unable to score any more points in the second half, but kept the Red Wolves from scoring any more points as well en route to a 16-7 victory.
 
The Panthers will stay in the south for the remainder of the week as they now head to Clemson for a scrimmage against the Tigers on Wednesday, and then a regular season match against Life University on Saturday, February 28^th.
