AUBURNDALE, Fla. –
Corey Murphy fanned a career-high 11 batters, including eight looking, and the offense racked up more than 18 hits for the second consecutive game as the No. 19 Davenport baseball team opened the spring break trip in Florida Sunday with a 15-2 victory over a baseball debut-making Cleary at Lake Myrtle Park.
Once Murphy retired the Cougars (0-1) allowing only a two-out double, the Panther offense went to work with
Cody Greear leading off with a big double into the open gap in left center,
Dre Celestijn moved him to third with a sacrifice bunt and
Matt Priebe brought him home with a single through the left side.
Davenport blew the game wide open driving in seven runs in the fourth, including left-hander
Brendan Bender's big three-run blast to left center.
Murphy collected his first win in 2015 after tossing six shutout innings and allowing only three hits and a walk. He also He also posted a streak of four straight strikeouts looking between the third and fourth innings.

Ryan Butzer and
Alex Schuiling carried it the rest of the way.
The Cougars got the program's first two runs in the ninth inning.
The Panthers will travel to Lake Wales to play a single, 9-inning game with Warner Monday at 3 p.m.
