No. 23 Panthers Shutout Embry-Riddle in Doubleheader Action

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The No. 23 Davenport softball team got the longest road trip of its spring break tour in Florida done Tuesday. Haley Obetts, Paige Sant'Angelo and KC Dunne each tallied three hits on the afternoon as the Panthers shutout Embry-Riddle 8-0 in five innings and 7-0 in game two down Daytona Beach.

Obetts knocked in three RBI in the twinbill and Dunne stretch two of her hits into a double and a triple.

Game 1 – Davenport 8, Embry-Riddle 0 (5 innings)
Davenport's (4-0) bats were kept quiet until the third inning, when all eight runs were driven in on the frame. Obetts led off with a single, Sarah Schneidenbach tried to move the first baseman over to second with a bunt but no response by the Eagles allowed her to reach safely. After Carli SanMillan drew a walk to load the bases, the heart of the Panthers lineup went to work five singles and a walk to drive in all eight runs.

Emily Maves, making her first appearance of the season, threw a complete-game gem striking out seven and allowing four hits and two walks.

Game 2 – Davenport 7, Embry-Riddle 0
The Panthers scored all the runs they needed in the second inning. Sant'Angelo led off with a single to right, advanced to third on Alyssa Eastman's single and Karli Myers' walk to set up Ashleigh Blovsky's RBI hit in the infield. A fielding error by the shortstop allowed Myers to score the second run of the game.

The Panthers took a 3-0 lead in the fourth off of inning-opening back-to-back doubles by Blovsky and Obetts. The game was put out of the Eagles' (1-7) reach in the sixth when two straight one-out singles by Obetts and Schneidenbach followed by back-to-back doubles by SanMillan and Dunne and a RBI single by Sant'Angelo completed the 7-0 win.

Eastman (2-0) rang up four batters but allowed four walks before turning it over to Kyleigh Linebaugh in the seventh, who only surrendered a hit in her one-inning relief.

The Panthers will travel to Lakeland for a doubleheader with Southeastern Tuesday. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
