LAKELAND, Fla.
– A little shower on the campus of Southeastern University prior to first pitch did not seem to slow down a really hot Davenport softball team Tuesday evening.
Carli SanMillan had five hits including a double and three RBI,
KC Dunne hasn't missed a beat at the plate as she drove in four runs to lead the No. 23 Panthers to a pair of 8-3 victories over the host Fire.
Â
Game 1 – Davenport 8, Southeastern 3Although the Panthers (6-0) have been carrying hot bats right from the start of the season, it wasn't until the sixth inning that they brought in the runs. Dunne reached on an error and
Alyssa Eastman reached on a single to set up a two-run double by
Karli Myers.
Â
After the Fire (7-4) rallied with a three-run homer in its half of the inning, Davenport rallied and delivered six runs in its final inning.
Sarah Schneidenbach earned a free pass to first base and reached third on a defensive mistake during
Alyssa Koziol's at-bat. SanMillan punished Southeastern for that costly mistake by hitting a game-tying single to left. The Panthers retook the lead when Eastman hit into a fielder's choice.
Â
Emily Maves retired the side in order to pick up her second win of the season. She went the distance striking out five and allowing four hits.
Â
Game 2 – Davenport 8, Southeastern 3Davenport never trailed in the evening-cap of the doubleheader, scoring one run in the first and third followed by three more in both the fourth and sixth frames.
Â
Dunne went a perfect 4-for-4 with all four of her RBI coming in each inning the Panthers had scored. In fact, she was a home run short from hitting for the cycle for the second time in three days. She hit a triple to right center in the first, a single up the middle in the third, a double to left in the fourth followed by another single in the sixth.
Â
Eastman (3-0) took a no-hitter into the sixth inning. Only defensive mistake in the fifth allowed the Fire to get a runner on. The sophomore ended up allowing three runs on two hits and a walk while striking out four.
Â
The Panthers will enjoy a day off before heading over to Webber International Thursday. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
