Burnett Scores Career-High 32 Points to Lead Panthers Past Lawrence Tech

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The third-ranked Davenport men's basketball team made their fourth appearance at home this semester on Wednesday night as they faced Lawrence Tech. Dominez Burnett led the Panthers with 32 points to set a new personal best and he capped off his fourth double-double of the season with 11 rebounds in the 69-51 victory. Davenport will be on their road for their next two games, starting on Saturday at 3 p.m. in Lima, Ohio against Northwestern Ohio.
 
Dominez Burnett scored a career-high 32 points and tied his season-high rebound total with 11 for his fourth double-double of the season. Kevin Rich chipped in with 14 points and five rebounds to conclude the Panther players in double-figures. John McCloud set a new season-high in rebounds with eight, which tied his career-high set last season against Grace Bible.
 
After the Panthers scored the first four points of the game, Lawrence Tech came storming back to take an 11-6 lead with 14:48 remaining in the first half. The Panthers regained the lead for the rest of the game at the 9:55 mark in the first half as they took a 17-16 lead. The Panthers took a 32-26 lead into the half, as Burnett had 17 of the 32 points for Davenport and was 7-for-10 from the field. In the first half, DU shot 41.2 percent from the field and was 1-for-9 from behind the arc, while Lawrence Tech was 6-for-12 from three and shot 45.5 percent from the floor in the first half.
 
Davenport started to pull away in the second half as they took their first double-digit lead of the game with 16:20 left in the half with a 40-30 lead. The Panthers took their largest lead of the game with 4:21 left in the game by the score of 63-41. DU shot an even 50 percent from the field in the half, while the Panther defense was able to hold the Blue Devils to just 38.1 percent in the half. Burnett scored another 15 points in the second half as he shot 12-for-19 from the floor and was 8-for-9 from the field.
 
The Panthers will be on the road for the next two games starting on Saturday against Northwestern Ohio at 3 p.m. in Lima, Ohio.
 
Post-Game Notes
With the eight made free throws in the game, Dominez Burnett is three made free throws away from tying the all-time record for made free throws, which is currently held by Nathan Cox with 472 free throws made all-time… Burnett also broke 1,700 career point and has a total of 1,723 points in his career, which is just 30 points behind James Nelson for second all-time and he is 29 points behind Nathan Cox for third all-time… Davenport still holds a two game lead in the WHAC standings over Northwestern Ohio and Cornerstone
