KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), along with the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), have agreed that Davenport University's
Dominez Burnett was the best player in the NAIA Division II and have awarded him the 2014-15 National Player of the Year, as announced late Wednesday.
Burnett becomes the second player at Davenport in the 2014-15 academic year to achieve the most prestigious individual honor in the NAIA, joining Dzenan Catic of men's soccer.Burnett, a 6-5 forward out of Flint, Mich., had achieved many accomplishments during his junior season, highlighted by becoming the school's all-time points leader during the Panthers' win over Briar Cliff in the opening round of the NAIA Division II Tournament.

Needing only 25 points to break the previous record of 1,902 held by former teammate
JaVontae Ford (2010-14), Burnett scored 30 against the Chargers to break the record and added 55 more in the next three games of the tournament to close out the season with 1,963 in his collegiate career.

Burnett finished the 2014-15 season having averaged 21.9 points and 7.1 rebounds per game while having shot 55.2 percent from the field. In fact, he finished in double figures in points in all but the second game of the season. He also finished with six double-doubles.

Burnett started all but one of his 104 appearances in his three years with Davenport. He is averaging 18.9 points and 5.8 rebounds per game and has shot 53.2 percent. He also has 259 assists and 156 steals.

Under Burnett's leadership, Davenport finished the season 30-7 overall and had won the program's third Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference regular-season championship. The Panthers reached the Fab Four of the NAIA Division II Tournament for the second time in four years.
