No. 18 Softball Shuts Out CCAC Opponents in Nightcap of DU Classic

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The 18th-ranked Davenport softball closed the first of a two-day Softball Classic at the Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex Friday with a pair of victories over Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference members. Alyssa Koziol homered in both games to help the Panthers shut out Roosevelt (Ill.) 7-0 in game one and Judson (Ill.) 5-0.

The Panthers resume the Classic Saturday with Judson at 2 p.m. followed by Hillsdale at 6 p.m.

Game 1 – Davenport 7, Roosevelt 0
Davenport scored all the runs it needed in the fourth. Karli Myers christened the inning with a single up the middle and Alyssa Koziol followed with a two-run blast to left field. Ashleigh Blovsky reached base with a hit to third and moved to second on Haley Obetts sacrifice bunt, and back-to-back fielding errors by the middle infielder allowed to set up two more runs and take a 5-0 lead.

The Panthers scored two more runs in the seventh inning. KC Dunne hit a one-out three-bagger to right center and scored on a passed ball. Alyssa Eastman drew a walk, stole second and advanced to third on a passed ball before Karli Myers sent her home with a double to left.

Emily Maves (9-2) went the distance allowing four hits and walking three. She also fanned seven.

Game 2 – Davenport 5, Judson 0
The eventual winning run came in the first inning with the Panthers not having to use a base hit. Dunne reached on a fielder's choice with two outs and with the Eagles defense not paying attention to her, the shortstop snuck her way to second. She advanced to third on a passed ball and found her way home.

Eastman would cash in an insurance policy for the Panthers with a two-run homer to left to bump the lead to 3-0. She would force in a run with a bases-loaded walk in the fourth and Koziol would put the game out of Judson's reach with a leadoff shot in the fifth.

Eastman (7-1) struck out five but gave up only three hits and two walks during her complete-game outing.
