ST. CHARLES, Mo. – The No. 23 Davenport softball team made a return to Lindenwood University's Lou Brock Complex Saturday and picked up a 6-0 win over No. 25 Taylor in game one followed by holding on to a 2-0 win over Lindenwood-Belleville in the afternoon cap to complete the four-game weekend sweep over the two schools.
Â
In the two contests,
Paige Sant'Angelo had three hits to the lead the Panthers (14-1),
Alyssa Koziol reached the fence for a home run in one of her two hits and
KC Dunne had two hits, including a double, and a pair of RBI.
Â
Game 1 – Davenport 6, Taylor 0The Panthers scored all the runs they needed in the second, and they didn't have to earn it. Two defensive mistakes with one out allowed Koziol to score the first run of the game and
Karli Myers' groundout brought in
Haley Obetts home from third.
Â
Davenport took a 3-0 lead in the next inning when
Paige Sant'Angelo hit a two-out single and scored on
Alyssa Eastman's triple to right field. Koziol would lead off the fourth with a blast to left field and after Myers doubled to right, she was brought home on
Carli SanMillan's single to the same direction.
Â
Eastman (5-0) threw six innings allowing three hits, all singles, and two walks but struck out six.
Kyleigh Linebaugh went the rest of the way allowing a triple and a walk but preserved the shutout.
Â
Game 2 – Davenport 2, Lindenwood-Belleville 0Although the 'visiting' Lynx threatened to score in the first inning with a game-opening triple,
Emily Maves (7-1) held prevented the run by retiring the side with a ground out, a pop out and a striketout. The only runs scored in the contest were in the Panthers half of the first. SanMillan led off with a single to right, advanced to second on a passed ball and scored on
KC Dunne's double to left. Sant'Angelo followed with a RBI single to give Davenport a 2-0 lead.
Â
Lynx pitcher Michele Pilster would settle down and hold the Panthers hitless the rest of the game. Maves, on the other hand, had to earn the win after a couple of threats in the sixth and seventh innings that included two runners in scoring position with nobody out in the final frame.
Â
For the first time this season, Eastman couldn't tally a hit, ending her hitting streak to 14 games.
