Women’s Rugby Eyes National Championship Bid at Big Ten 7’s Qualifier

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – After coming up just short of a chance to earn a spot in the 7's National Championships last week at the National Qualifier in Cleveland, the no. 2 Davenport women's rugby team will have another shot at a national bid at this weeken's Big Ten 7's Qualifier tournament. The Panthers open tournament play with a 10:40 a.m. kickoff against Ferris State, followed by a match against Lindenwood.

The tournament bracket will re-seed the remaining teams after the second round if Davenport were to advance that far.

The Panthers are no stranger to both Ferris State and Lindenwood, as they opened the 2014-15 campaign with a 85-0 victory over Ferris State back in September. Davenport and Lindenwood have squared off against each other twice this season in 15's play, with Davenport winning the first game 20-5, but coming up short in the second game by a score of 15-6.

In last week's USA Rugby 7's National Qualifier in Cleveland, the Panthers started out 2-0 by defeating Ohio State and Michigan, but fell to the defending champion and no.1 team Notre Dame College 19-12, preventing the Panthers from earning a big to the National Championships.

The USA Rugby 7's National Championships will take place May 2nd and 3rd in West Point, N.Y.
