Panthers Win Game One; Aquinas Takes Nightcap on Walk-off

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – KC Dunne had five hits including a double and her 11th home run of the season as Davenport's 18th-ranked softball team split a doubleheader with Aquinas. The Panthers rode on another gem outing by Emily Maves in the Panthers 6-0 game-one win but the Saints responded with a 3-2 walk-off victory in the nightcap to split the Beltline Rivalry between the two schools at Fuller Park Saturday.

The split drops Davenport (31-7, 11-3 WHAC) one game behind first-place Madonna with four conference games remaining heading into the final week of the regular season.

Game 1 – Davenport 6, Aquinas 0
Coming off a perfect game Wednesday, Maves mave have allowed a double in the third for the first hit since but prevented any runs across in her complete-game outing. She went on to allow six hits while striking out seven.

The Panthers offense, meanwhile, scored all the runs they needed in the third inning. Alyssa Koziol led off with a double and Sarah Schneidenbach drew a walk. Dunne drove in Koziol with a base hit and an error by the Saints setup the bases loaded for Alyssa Eastman, who delivered a two-run double to give the Panthers a 3-0 lead.

Davenport took a 4-0 lead the following inning after Koziol hit a leadoff single and scored on Dunne's double. The Panthers added two more runs in the seventh inning with a leadoff hit by Eastman, another Saints error along with a pinch-hit two-bagger by Cayley Duddles.

Game 2 – Aquinas 3, Davenport 2
Davenport, once again, jumped ahead in the fourth inning when Dunne hit a leadoff homer and Eastman got on base to set up a RBI double by Ashleigh Blovsky.

Aquinas answered back one inning later scoring two runs.

The Panthers had an opportunity to score the go-ahead run in the seventh with pinch-runner Britt McLain at third base and two outs but was stranded. The Saints entered the similar situation and pulled through with a walk-off single.

Eastman suffered the loss despite allowing two earned runs on seven hits and no walks.

The road trip continues for the Panthers as they head to Adrian for a matchup with Siena Heights. First pitch has been moved to 11 a.m. to avoid rain which is on the forecast.
