Story Links

ADRIAN, Mich. – Alyssa Koziol had three hits including a grand slam to produce an eight RBI day, Paige Sant'Angelo had two home runs in game one as the No. 18 Davenport softball team picked up two Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference victories at Siena Heights Sunday.

The Panthers scored eight runs including Koziol's slam in the ninth to take game one 10-3 and then scored in all but the second inning to blow away the Saints 22-2 in five innings.

With the two wins, Davenport remains one game behind first-place Madonna in the WHAC standings with two games remaining in the league's regular-season. The Panthers will head to Sylvania, Ohio to play Lourdes Friday at 3 p.m. The two teams were supposed to meet early in the season but was forced to be postponed.

Game 1 – Davenport 10, Siena Heights 3 (9 innings)
Davenport jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Sant'Angelo hit a two-run home run to left field. The Saints countered with a two-run shot of their own when it was their turn to bat.

It remained 2-2 until ninth inning. Sarah Schneidenbach reached on an error and Sant'Angelo delivered another two-run blast to left. Koziol put the game out of the Saints reach with a grand slam to left.

Emily Maves tossed all nine innings conceding five hits and three walks while fanning 15.

Game 2 – Davenport 22, Siena Heights 2
Although the Panthers combined for 22 runs in four innings, 13 of those were earned. KC Dunne touched home plate four times, Koziol and Schneidenbach each scored three times.

Davenport did all the damage it needed in the first inning. With the help of two errors, Schneidenbach, Alyssa Eastman and Ashleigh Blovsky each driven in three of four runs on the frame. The Panthers took complete control of the game when they tallied eight runs in the third.

Despite allowing two unearned runs in the first and third, Eastman carried the Panthers to the fifth inning scattering four hits and three walks. Kyleigh Linebaugh threw a scoreless fifth inning to complete the mercy-rule victory.
