GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The No. 3 Davenport baseball team recorded 32 hits and 33 runs in the two games as the 'visiting' Panthers romped baseball newbie Marygrove 23-4 by mercy in game one and 10-0 in the nightcap at the Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex Friday. With the two wins, the Panthers improve to 29-2 overall, 13-0 in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play, but the main highlight is they increase their win streak to a program-record 20 straight.

Cam Cooper finished the day with a perfect 7-for-7 outing on the day. He also added a triple, five runs and four RBI.

Game 1 – Davenport 23, Marygrove 4 (7 innings)The Panthers scored a run in all seven innings played against the Mustangs. Cooper went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate and scored all four times,
Zack Sardellitti had a four-RBI day and
Jordan Zylstra, who went 3-for-4, had three RBI.

Although the Panthers jumped to an 8-0 lead in the third, the Mustangs did cut the deficit in half with a four-run inning. Davenport did recover from that hiccup by scoring six more runs in both the next two innings.

Jerry Ferris (5-0) struck out six in five innings of work.
Scott Powell and
Michael Meade went the rest of the way throwing a one-hit shutout inning on 10 pitches each.

Game 2 – Davenport 10, Marygrove 0The Panthers scored all the runs they needed in the first inning. Zylstra drew a one-out walk, stole second and scored on
Matt Priebe's base hit up the middle. After Sardellitti reached second on a hit and an error to score Priebe,
Connor Seymour sent a pitch to right center for a two-run triple to give Davenport a 3-0 lead.

Three unearned runs were added in the third. Bender, Sardellitti and Seymour both hit singles to load the bases and a fielding error by the shortstop a hit by
Nolan Wilson allowed Bender and Sardellitti to score. Cooper followed with an RBI single through a hole on the right side to give DU a 6-0 lead.

Davenport added two more runs both the fifth and seventh innings to complete the 10-0 score.

Anthony Alarcon picked up his fifth win of the season allowing two hits in five innings. He ran into trouble in the fifth when he loaded the bases on walks but managed to escape the threat on his own.
Ryan Butzer took over and threw two perfect innings with a pair of strikeouts.

Davenport and Marygrove meet two more times at the Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex Saturday with game one slated for a 1 p.m. first pitch.
