Seven Panthers Record Tries in 54-0 Victory on Senior Night

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Seven different Panthers recorded tries in the Davenport women's rugby 54-0 victory over Michigan on senior night in their spring debut on the Turf Field. Ashlee Byrge led all lady Panthers with 14 points, recording a try, three conversions and a penalty kick. This was the second time Davenport defeated the Wolverines on the Turf Field this season, as the Panthers improve to 14-4 on the season, and 4-3 in the spring. Davenport will be back into 7's action next weekend as they partake in the USA 7's National Qualifier at Notre Dame College

After a Danielle Ordway penalty kick got things going for the Panther attack, Brittany O'Dell chipped in the first try of the game to put the Panthers up 10-0 just ten minutes into the first half. Jennifer Harig and Byrge would tack on tries of their own, giving Davenport a 22-0 lead heading into the half.

The Panther attack only increased in the second half as Makala Ferguson and Taylor Van Langen scored their first tries of the spring, with Byrge knocking in both conversion kicks. Amy Plambeck would then tally he first try of the season, which was quickly followed by a score from Melissa Francis, who replaced Ordway after she left the game due to an ankle injury.

As time expired in regulation, Hunter Moreland reached the try zone to put the Wolverines away in a 54-0 shutout victory for the Panthers. Davenport's 54 points is the most points scored in a game since they defeated Cincinnati back on November 15 last fall.

The Panthers will be back in action next weekend as they compete in the USA 7's National Qualifier at Notre Dame College.
