GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – After splitting a pair of contest in 15's play against division I opponent's Lindenwood and Michigan,
Greg Teliczan's no. 2 Davenport women's rugby team will shift their focus back to 7s play as they look to qualify for the USA 7's National Championships this weekend in the National Qualifier tournament held by Notre Dame College. The Panthers first game will start at 8 a.m. against Ohio State.
Along with Ohio State, Davenport is guaranteed to square off against Michigan for a third time this season, and will also get another shot at no. 1 Notre Dame College who knocked Davenport out in the second round of the USA Rugby 15's National Championship tournament last November.
Davenport comes into the weekend with a 14-4 overall record, and are currently 3-2 in 7's play after a runner up finish at the Atlanta 7's Festival where they faced all division I opponenets.
The top eight teams from all qualifying tournaments will earn a spot in the National Championships that will be held on May 2
nd and 3
rd in West Point, N.Y.
