MORAGA, Calif. – The Davenport men's rugby team saw their 2014-2015 season come to a close Saturday afternoon, as they fell to the defending national champions Saint Mary's College 48-32 in Moraga, California. Davenport finishes the 2014-15 campaign with a 11-7 overall record, and is now 3-2 all time in the D!A National Tournament.
The Panthers found themselves in a hole from the very get go, falling into a 10-0 hole midway through the first half. After another Gael score, Davenport was able to get on the board with a penalty kick thanks to the leg of Senior
Jean Pierre Eloff. Saint Mary's was able to score their third try of the contest right before the end of the opening half, and went into the locker room with a comfortable 24-3 lead.
Davenport would show some life in the second half, mustering up 29 points with tries from
Gabe Sochanek,
Reece Czarnecki, and
Dominique Bailey. The Panthers narrowest deficit was 11 points before Saint Mary's was able to put Davenport away on a try as time expired.
Saint Mary's advances to their second consecutive D1A National Championship in a rematch against No. 1 Life, who defeated Lindenwood earlier today 43-14.
