GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The women's rugby 15's hosted Indiana University on Saturday at the DU Turf Field in the season opener. The outcome was a convincing 71-10 win for the Panthers over the Hoosiers. It was the first win for DU over IU in the history of the program.
Danielle Ordway started the scoring early on with a 90-plus meter scamper and
Hannah Tennant converted the conversion for a 7-0 lead. Ordway minutes later added another try and the conversion was no good for a 12-0 lead.
Madison Sparks converted on her first try as a Panther to build the lead to 17-0.
Ashlee Byrge crossed the end line for a try and Tennant added the conversion for a 24-0 lead and the rout was on.
In the second half, Ordway opened things up with a try and the Tennant conversion made it 45-0. Indiana would score the next 10 points before Ordway scored again to make it 50-10. Ordway would finish the match with a total of six tries to lead the Panthers.
