FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The No. 1 Davenport men's basketball team got a test at Indiana Tech on Saturday and passed it with a 71-68 win over the Warriors. DU picked up their sixth straight win and fourth straight since earning the No. 1 ranking in NAIA Division II. The Panthers defeated an Indiana Tech team that was receiving votes in the latest national poll and entered the game with a 14-7 record (11-3 WHAC). The Panthers improved to 19-3 overall (13-1 WHAC) and held on to a one-game lead over Aquinas in the WHAC standings.
Dominez Burnett poured in 29 points and went 8-of-8 from the free throw line including a pair that gave DU a three-point lead late in the contest. Burnett recorded five rebounds and three steals in 38 minutes.
Nick Gamble contributed 11 points, four rebounds, three steals and two assists in 33 minutes. Gamble hit a clutch triple and made one free throw down the stretch.
Kevin Rich scored eight points and grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds in 36 minutes.
Wayne Bradford scored 10 points and dished out two assists in 28 minutes.
The Warriors received 30 points from Miles Robinson and also 12 rebounds. The point total was the most against the Panthers this season by an opposing player. Dominique Walls scored 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in 40 minutes. Indiana Tech shot 38.7 percent from the floor and DU held them to 29.6 percent in the second half. The Panthers shot 41.8 percent from the floor for the game and they were 22-of-29 at the foul line.
