GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Panthers continue their historic season after defeating Madonna 2-0 at home. Davenport is still undefeated on the season and increased their win streak to 13 wins after the victory. The win streak of 13 ties a program record for longest win streak of all time, that record was originally set back in 2013. The women's soccer team also improves the record of longest streak without losing, which is now set at 15 games.
The Crusaders came into the match-up with a 6-3-3 record and ready to compete. The Panthers would play on their heels for most of the first half as Madonna tallied nine shots, three of which were on net. Davenport would only take seven shots total in the first half, both teams would head into the half scoreless.
The second half was a completely different ball game for the Panthers. Davenport would dominate the second half and show why they are undefeated on the season. The Panthers would tally ten shots, three of which were on net. The girls found their marks as two of those shots on net turned into goals.
Alice Linsell would get the Panthers on the board first as she scored in the 59
th minute of the game and was assisted by
Roheema Bennett. Bennett passed the ball into the middle of the box and Linsell fired the ball into the lower right corner of the goal. Defender
Alex Prout would notch her first goal of the season and give Davenport a 2-0 lead with just a few minutes left in the game. Prout would received a pass from
Shameeka Fishley and send the ball into the upper right corner of the net.
The Panthers would be pleased with the outcome and more specifically their second half performance. Davenport has three regular seasons games left on their schedule and will host Aquinas college on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex.
