WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The Davenport baseball team picked up a come-from-behind win in game one and then scored early and often in game two on Sunday against Point Park to begin the spring break trip with a pair of wins. The Panthers trailed 2-0 after two innings in game one and then scored once in the third inning.
Jeremy Vasquez had a RBI single in the inning which scored
Travis Bolin. Bolin manufactured a run by drawing a walk, stealing second and making it to third on a wild pitch.
Point Park took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth as Demetrius Moorer hit a one-out solo homer. The Panthers staged a three-run seventh inning to take a 4-3 lead.
Zack Sardellitti doubled to start the rally and
Dominic Albanese pinch ran at second.
Logan Magsig had a two-out RBI single scoring Albanese and then Bolin delivered the knockout blow with a two-run homer.
Jonathan Cheshire entered the game in the sixth inning and got the final two outs and then pitched a 1-2-3 seventh inning for his first win of the season.
Corey Murphy went 5.1 innings and allowed three runs with a walk and six strikeouts.
Davenport trailed 2-0 in game two after a half inning as
Brandon White got his first start of the season. White would get some run support in the second and third innings as DU scored twice in each inning for a 4-2 lead. Sardellitti had a RBI single and
Brian Sobieski hit a sacrifice fly to tie it in the second. Bolin scored in the third on a RBI triple by
Brandon Larkin-Guilfoyle and then
Brandon Cable singled him home.
Point Park got two more runs off White in the fourth with the tying run coming on an error. White would get the win as the DU bullpen threw three shutout innings.
Caleb Leach,
Alex Schuiling and Cheshire allowed just one hit while Cheshire picked up his second save with a clean seventh inning.
Davenport scored three times in the fourth to pull away with a 7-4 win. Vasquez had a sacrifice fly for the winning run and then Bolin smacked a two-RBI double for insurance. Bolin finished the day with four RBI. Larkin-Guilfoyle went 2-for-3 in game two with two runs scored. Sardellitti went 2-for-3 in game two.
