Panthers Blast the Mustangs in Sweep

DU won 10-0 and 23-2 extending their win streak to 11

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Davenport baseball team extended their win streak to 11 with a pair of wins against Marygrove on Friday. The Panthers improved to 22-7 overall and 10-0 in the WHAC by scores of 10-0 in eight innings and 23-2 in seven innings. In game two, Davenport tied for second most runs and hits in a game in school history.

Brandon White punched out 11 Mustangs and picked up the win in game one. He allowed just three hits and was perfect through four innings. He threw 90 pitches (64 strikes) and is now 3-0 this season. Krystien Johnson-Batillana preserved the shutout with one inning pitched in the eighth and allowed two hits with two strikeouts. Joe Gignac took the loss for Marygrove tossing six innings and allowing six hits and five earned runs.

Matt Priebe collected his ninth double of the season and went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and four RBI. JP North collected two hits in three at-bats with his first triple of the season. Brian Sobieski hit his second home run of the season coming with two outs in the bottom of the third and the bases empty. Davenport scored in each inning from the third inning on and finished with 10 hits.

The second game was all Panthers as they had 11 extra-base hits against four Mustang hurlers. James Targus got the start for Marygrove and lasted just 1.2 innings. He yielded nine hits and nine earned runs as Davenport led 10-0 after two innings. Nick Anderson did not fare much better going 2.1 innings and allowing six hits and five earned runs. DU scored at least two runs in their six at-bats as a team.

Corbin Clouse went four innings to pick up the victory (2-0) for Davenport. He allowed three hits and one walk while striking out seven. Caleb Leach, Alex Schuiling and Jonathan Cheshire each pitched a scoreless inning in relief. Seven different players had a multi-hit game for the Panthers. Sobieski went 3-for-3 with two doubles and three runs scored in the leadoff spot. Dre Celestijn replaced him in right field and went 2-for-2 with a walk, RBI and two runs scored. Brandon Cable went 3-for-6 with three runs and three RBI including his fourth double.

Travis Bolin had a pair of RBI going 3-for-4 with his 11th double. Priebe had a double, run and RBI in the nightcap. Brandon Larkin-Guilfoyle drove in three runs and had his third double of the season. Nick Rangos hit an inside-the-park homer to left center in the fifth inning for his first of the year. Jeremy Vasquez went 2-for-3 with two RBI, two walks and four runs scored.
