GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Davenport baseball team secured second place in the WHAC standings with a doubleheader sweep of Siena Heights on Friday afternoon. The Panthers finished the regular season 39-13 overall and 25-6 in the WHAC. Davenport will be the two-seed in the upcoming WHAC Tournament which starts on Monday, May 9 at Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex. The Panthers will play at 10 a.m. against an opponent to be determined. Based on league standings it will be either Concordia or Indiana Tech.
The Panthers had a challenge from the Saints who entered the day out of contention for a WHAC Tournament spot. SHU trailed 1-0 after
Travis Bolin launched his 16th homer of the season in the first inning but responded with a five-run third inning knocking
Corey Sessions out of the game. Brendan Green, Freddy Jehle, Travis Stricklin and John Watts each had a RBI single in the inning.
Davenport then scored eight unanswered runs to claim a 9-5 win in game one.
Brandon Cable finished the game with two doubles and four RBI. He had a two-run double to right center with two outs in the fourth and another two-bagger to center scoring a pair in the sixth.
Connor Seymour finished with three RBI including a two-run single in the fifth which tied the game at 5-5.
Cable's second double gave Davenport a 7-5 and then they scored single runs in the seventh and eighth innings.
Matt Priebe had a RBI single in the seventh and Seymour delivered a RBI single in the eighth.
Bryan Saucedo pitched three strong innings to earn the win. He finished with six strikeouts and no walks while allowing two hits and no runs.

Jonathan Cheshire also pitched scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
Reid Olmstead replaced SHU starter Kyle Kuhr in the fifth inning and took the loss giving up three earned runs in three innings.
The Panthers trailed until the sixth inning of game two before pulling out a 6-5 win. Bolin tied the season record at DU with his 83rd hit which was his 17th double of the season.
Dre Celestijn finished 1-for-3 with two RBI.
Jeremy Vasquez went 2-for-3 with a run and RBI.
Brian Sobieski went 2-for-3 with a run and the game-tying RBI in the sixth. Cable finished his strong day going 2-for-3. Seymour hit his fourth triple of the season in his only at-bat to lead off the bottom of the first.
Cheshire picked up the win as DU's fourth pitcher improving to 4-2. He threw the final 1.1 innings and got into a jam in the seventh before escaping. A pair of one-out singles but runners on first and second and then Cheshire hit the ninth hitter Jake Maruk to load the bases. Ryne Sanders was then picked off second base by Cheshire which proved to be huge as Jehle grounded out to second to end the game.
Michael Meade got the start and lasted two innings allowing two earned runs with two walks and a strikeout. Thomas McCarter took the loss for the Saints allowing four earned runs and 13 hits in six innings. Daniel Muller went 2-for-4 with three RBI for SHU.
