GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - It was a lopsided 11-0 win for the women's soccer team on Wednesday afternoon in their home opener against Grace Bible. The Panthers totaled 33 shots including 20 shots on goal against the Tigers. Grace Bible had a total of three shots with two shots on goal.
Shameeka Fishley became the third player at Davenport to score four goals in a game and now has six for the season. She scored in the 7th minute and 10th minute as the Panthers scored five times in the first half and six more times in the second half.
Juli Knapp assisted on Fishley's first goal and
Katherine Steiner assisted on the second goal.
Halie Farrell scored the first of her three goals in the 34th minute with
Roheema Bennett credited with an assist. Farrell scored on a rebound off a header right in front of the goal. Bennett then scored her first of the season in the 40th minute as Farrell had an assist.
Taylor Genzink scored her first goal of the season on a blast inside the right post from 25 yards. Fishley opened the second half scoring in the 49th minute from
Alayna Hilgendorf.
Alice Linsell scored her first in the 52nd minute on a shot from 40 yards over the keeper's head.
Hilgendorf scored in the 53rd minute on a deflected shot into the top left from 20 yards. Fishley's fourth goal was in the 59th minute on a left footer into the lower right deflected by the keeper. Farrell scored in the 88th minute and again just under two minutes later. Knapp and Steiner both got their second assists on the goals. The 11 goals was fourth most in DU history.
Amy Corcoran made two saves in the first half and saw no shots come her way in the second half.
