Panthers Sweep Colorado State To Open Up The New Year

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Panthers sweep Colorado State over the weekend and improve to 18-4-1 on the season. In the second game ESPN 3 streamed the game live and Davenport put on a show. The Rams were ranked 18 in the latest national poll and Davenport is ranked fifth.

Game 1 (Friday, January 14th)
Final Score: Davenport 5, Colorado State 2
Location: Grand Rapids, Mich.
Records: Davenport 17-4-1, Colorado State 9-11

1st Period: DU-1, CS-0
2nd Period: DU-3, CS-1
3rd Period: DU-1, CS-1

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Luke Cowan scored the first Panther goal of 2017 about halfway into the first period, he was assisted by Jordan Simmonds and Chris Eckler. He would score the only goal of the first period.
-The Panthers built a lead in the second period, scoring three goals compared to the Rams one. Michael Lozicki, Simmonds and Eckler each scored.
-Davenport and the Rams each scored a girl in the third period to keep the gap at three goals. DU held off late assaults by Colorado State.
-Eckler led DU with two goals.
-Louie Abounader and Eckler both had two assists a piece.
-Tanner Swift played all 60 minutes and stopped 30 of the 32 Ram shots tonight.

Game 2 (Saturday, January 15th)
Final Score: Davenport 5, Colorado State 2

Records: Davenport 18-4-1, Colorado State 9-12

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Wade Weisgerber got things started off early in the second period with a goal just one minute and 49 seconds into the period. He was assisted by Everett Thompson and Aaron Beally. The Rams responded in the tenth minute of play to tie the game at 1-1. Davenport rallied off two more goals in the period to take a 3-1 lead into the final period.
-The Rams scored the first goal of the last period to make it a one goal game. Lozicki and Eckler helped put an end to the Rams hope with one goal each to help DU win 5-2.
-Five different Panthers scored in this game, Eckler, Lozicki, Thompson, Weisgerber and Alex Fonseca.
-Abounader assisted on two goals.
-Tanner Swift played the whole game in net and tallied 16 saves.

Davenport travels to Rochester College on the 19th to play their first road game of 2017.
