HOW IT HAPPENED
Davenport let the dogs lose, so to speak, on defense today. They were trapping the ball, crashing the class and contesting every shot the Blue Devils took. The Panthers played 11 players in the first half and everyone gave it their all while on the court. Not only did DU play some impressive defense, but they also converted on the offensive end of the ball. Davenport shot 52% in the half, and assisted on eight of their made field goals.
Robbie Bramhill led the Panthers at half with eight points on 3/5 shooting from the field.
Javon Haines led DU in rebound with five, all defensive rebounds. Davenport went into half having a bigger lead (19) then the Blue Devils did points (18).
In the second half Davenport kept up the defensive intensity, which on the road against a conference opponent is always a tough goal to accomplish. Even though the Blue Devils scored more points in the second half, Davenport was still able to increase their lead over the 20-minute half. Multiple players made significant contributions off the bench in the second half.
Dawid Czerniawski had ten points on 5/6 shooting from the field, and
Cameron Burns had eight points on 3/4 shooting. The Blue Devils field goal percentage increased in the second half, however the Panthers forced them into 13 turnovers.
The overall theme of this game for Davenport was team basketball, no player clocked more then 24 minutes and ten different players got double digits in minutes played. DU forced the Blue Devils into 22 turnovers, and the Panthers assisted on 18 of their 33 made field goals. Davenport shot 55% from the field during the game.
Four players scored in double digits tonight, Czerniawski (10),
Kevin Rich (11),
Khadim Dieng (12) and
Andia Marsh (12). Marsh went a perfect 4/4 from the field and also added four rebounds.
Thomas Hood and Haines each had five rebounds for the game to lead DU.
