Panthers Force Marygrove Into 22 Turnovers During 89-75 Win

Robbie Bramhill records his first collegiate double double with 18 points and 11 rebounds

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Panthers forced Marygrove into 22 turnovers and shot 50% from the field during an 89-75 conference home win. Davenport shared the ball well tonight with 22 assists on their 36 made field goals. Freshman Robbie Bramhill recorded his first collegiate double double with 18 points and 11 rebounds in only 23 minutes.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Panthers put together an impressive first half on defense to take a ten point lead heading into the break. Davenport forced the Mustangs into 11 turnovers and held them to 29% shooting from the three during the half. The last five minutes of the half is where DU made a significant run to take their double digit halftime lead. Marygrove led 25-21 with 5:13 remaining in the half, over the next five minutes the Panthers made seven field goals compared to the Mustangs one. Bramhill provided a couple of trey balls during the run and Javon Haines finished the half off with an alley-oop jam threw by Nick Gamble.
 
Davenport continued their momentum into the start of the second half by going on a 10-4 run to open up the half. For the remainder of the game both teams shot extremely well from the floor, Marygrove shot 60% from the field while Davenport shot 54% in the second half. Even though the Mustangs shot well from the field during the half DU maintained their double digit lead for the entire 20 minutes. Kevin Rich, Haines and Bramhill all chipped in evenly in the scoring category with ten points a piece during the half.
 
Three Panthers made significant scoring contributions tonight. Rich had 16 points on 7/13 shooting from the field, he also grabbed six rebounds. Haines had 19 points on 9/16 from the field, including his dunk to end the first half. Bramhill had a double double with 18 points, 11 rebounds. He also had three assists, two steals, and shot 7/14 from the field in only 23 minutes. Gamble was a floor general tonight with ten points and a game high seven assists.

Davenport squares off against conference opponent Northwestern Ohio on Saturday. The game is scheduled for a 3:00 p.m. tip-off at the DU Student Center.
