GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Panthers completed the sweep of Rochester College with a 2-1 win on Friday, took a day off, then defeated Western Michigan 5-1 on Sunday. Davenport went 3-0 over the week, defeating Rochester twice and WMU once. Rochester is currently ranked 19
th in the nation and Davenport showed why they are a top five team in the country, outscoring Rochester 8-3 in two games.

HOW IT HAPPENED-Rochester College scored the opening goal in the first period while they shutout the Panthers. Davenport had three penalties during the period, giving Rochester a couple power play opportunities.
-After the team talked with the coaches in the locker room in-between the first and second period a new DU team took the ice.
Alex Hulford scored in the fourth minute of play to tie the game at 1-1, this was a power play goal. Rochester had four penalties during the period and the game was tied heading into the final period.
-The third period provided a lot of drama, as neither team scored during the opening 17 minutes of the period.
Jordan Simmonds came in the clutch with a power play goal with just two minutes and 36 seconds to play, he was assisted by
Kody Polin and
Joey Ogden.
-Davenport outshot Rochester 42-21 during the game.
-Hulford and Simmonds each scored one goal.

Everett Thompson, Polin and Ogden all had one assist.

Tanner Swift played the whole game in net and only let up one goal on 21 shots.

HOW IT HAPPENED-Hulford got things started off with a bang for DU with a goal in the eighth minute of play, he scored the first goal for DU in both games. Western responded a few minutes later with a goal of their own to tie the game 1-1. Both teams had two power play opportunities during the period.
-Similar to the first game DU dominated the second and third period. Simmonds and Thompson each scored during the second period to create a 3-1 DU lead heading into the final period.
-Davenport built up their lead even more during the third period,
Louie Abounader and
Alyx Fonseca both scored during the period.
-The Panthers scored five goals on only 32 shots on goal.
-Five different Panthers scored, Hulford, Simmonds, Thompson, Abounader, and Fonseca.
-Ogden had two assists during the game.

Jason Rhynold was DU's goalie for the game and had 22 saves on the night.
UP NEXTAfter going 3-0 for the week the Panthers look forward to a mini-series against Oakland University this weekend. The first game will be played at Oakland on Friday night (8:30 p.m.) and the second game will be played at home on Saturday night (6:35 p.m.)
