PULASKI, Tenn. – The Panthers jumped out to a great start to the 2017 season as they defeated two teams out in Tennessee. Davenport defeated #14 Martin Methodist in a tight game 2-1 and out scored Georgetown in a high scoring match-up 8-6. The Panthers were poised towards the end of each game by holding onto the lead and not letting the opposing team make a come back. The team is now 2-0 on the season and have two games remaining in the Martin Methodist Meltdown.

Davenport scored two runs off of three hits.

Davenport got on the board quickly by scoring one run during the first and second inning. Maves and the rest of the team shut out the Red Hawks for five straight innings until they scored one run in the sixth inning. The Panthers led 2-1 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning. Maves made the first two batters ground out and than finished her impressive performance with a strike out for the last out of the game.

The Panthers got off to a hot start and created a good size lead after four innings. They scored three runs during the second and fourth innings. The bats cooled off during the next three innings for DU as only two runs more were scored. Davenport had to make a couple defensive plays down the stretch to close the deal while Georgetown was starting to find their swing. The Tigers scored two runs during the bottom of the seventh inning, but Teunissen and the rest of the defense got the job done.

Davenport plays two more games in the Martin Methodist Meltdown against Grace (Ind.) and Calumet College of St. Joseph. Games are schedule for 10:00 a.m. against Grace and 12:00 p.m. against Calumet.
