GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Panthers split their doubleheader against future GLIAC opponent Northwood University 1-1. Davenport stormed back in the first game of the doubleheader by scoring four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to win 7-5 over the Timberwolves. In the second game Northwood snuck away with a 4-2 win to even the series for the day. The Panthers improved to 20-2 on the season and only have three more non-conference opponents slated on their schedule.

The Panthers got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning off of an RBI single by Flores that scored Rowe. The Timberwolves responded in the top of the third inning and the game was tied 1-1 after four innings. Flores homered to center field in the bottom of the fifth to score French and herself, giving DU a 3-1 lead heading into the top of the sixth. Northwood scored four runs in the top of the six and Davenport was down two runs with just two innings left at bat. The Panthers exploded for four clutch runs during the bottom of the sixth, capped off by a single by Brambila that scored French and Obetts. Teunissen closed out the game successfully by not giving up a run during the top of the seventh.

The Panthers offense during the second game was stifled by the defense of the Timberwolves. While being held to only five hits, Davenport was still able to score two runs. Allen and Pauley each hit a solo home run during the game. Pauley's home run in the bottom of the fifth inning tied the game 2-2 heading into the last two innings of play. Northwood scored a run in both the sixth and seventh inning to win the game 4-2. Davenport only left three players on base.
UP NEXT
Davenport faces another future GLIAC opponent in Purdue University-Northwest on Wednesday, March 22 in a doubleheader. The games will be played in Hammond, Ind. with start times of 4:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
