ADRIAN, Mich. - The Davenport baseball team completed a three-game weekend sweep at Siena Heights on Saturday with a 5-3 win over the Saints to pick up their 20th win of the season. The Panthers led 3-1 heading into the bottom of the seventh when Siena Heights scored twice to tie the game. Davenport would then break the tie in the ninth with a pair of runs.
Justin Palmbos was lifted after just one inning as the Saints took a 1-0 lead.
Jonathan Cheshire was the story as he entered in relief and pitched a career-high eight innings and struck out a career-high 10 batters. Cheshire has been the team's closer and late-inning relief but filled innings when the team needed it. Cheshire gave up five hits and two earned runs in the seventh but did not walk a batter and improved to 2-3 on the mound this season. It was also his 11th career win in his 106th career appearance.
The Panthers had nine hits against three hurlers for the Saints. With the game tied heading into the top of the ninth,
Austin Petravicius led off with his second triple of the game to right.
Jimmy Filipski drew a walk and
Luke Lalumia pinch ran at first.
Nolan Page had the winning RBI on a fielder's choice as Lalumia was out at second and Petravicius scored.
Brian Sobieski was then hit by a pitch and SHU made a pitching change.
Jacob Buchberger drew a walk in a pinch hit role to load the bases.
Cameron Bair added insurance with a RBI single to right scoring Page. Cheshire then struck out the first two batters in the bottom of the ninth and got a grounder to end the game.
Petravicius increased his batting average to .378 going 3-for-4 with the pair of triples, two runs scored and a RBI. Page's two RBI led the team and he also scored a run.
Will Harris collected two hits in five at-bats and also had a RBI.
