Panthers off to best start in program history after sweeping Webber International (Fla.)

After the team won both games they are 15-1 and hold the best start in program history

BABSON PARK, Fla. – Davenport is having a superb start to their season and they have the statistics to back it up. The Panthers are now 15-1 after their sweep of Webber International today and have the best winning percentage through the first 16 games of any season in program history. They tied the previous record of 14-1, which was set in the 2015 season, after their 8-3 win during game one today and beat the record after winning their second game of the day.

Davenport was up against another tough opponent today as they took on Webber International (Fla.) who is currently ranked number 11 in the nation. The Panthers took a 3-0 lead into the bottom of the third after Flores hit a single in the top of the third that scored French. Webber International scored three runs in the bottom of the third and the game was tied 3-3 heading into the fourth. Maves and the rest of the defense held their own for the remainder of the game, holding Webber scoreless. Obetts and Flores each cranked out home runs in the sixth and seventh inning and DU cruised to an 8-3 win.

The Panthers jumped on top of Webber quickly after scoring three runs in the top of the first inning. Brambila notched two RBI's after a single that score McKenzie Rowe and French. Teunissen was solid on the mound as she only allowed Webber to scoring during the sixth inning and pitch six scoreless innings. Heading into the seventh inning the score was 4-2 in DU's favor and Obetts blew the game wide open. She had a single that scored Tasma, Brambila and Flores to help DU take a five run lead heading into the bottom of the seventh.

UP NEXT
Davenport has two games remaining in Florida and their NTC Spring Games. They will take on Grace College (Ind.) and Trinity International University (Ill.) tomorrow and 11:30am and 4:30pm.
