GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. –
Shameeka Fishley, a senior from Leeds, England, has officially signed a contract to play professional soccer in Iceland. Fishley had a phenomenal 2016 campaign, helping lead the Panthers to a 18-2-1 overall record and a program record 15 game win streak. She led the team this season in goals (12), points (28), shots on goal (51) and game-winning goals (6). Fishley also finished in the top three in multiple individual career stats. She finished third in points (81), third in goals (32), second in game-winning goals (13) and first in penalty kicks made (3).
Fishley signed her contract to play professionally back at the end of January. In May she will be moving to the South East of Iceland where she will be playing for UMF Sindri Hofn. The team competes in League One, which is also know as 1. Deild Kvenna. This is a 10 team league with relegation and promotion included.
"I am looking forward to playing with a different group and diversity of girls" stated Fishley. "I am excited to be going back to Europe and playing that style of soccer again. Hopefully this first year playing at this level will keep me growing and prepare me for my goals in the next five to 10 years."
