GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Sophomore pitcher
Grant Wolfram tied the single season wins record improving to 9-1 on the season with a 4-1 win over Marygrove on Friday. Wolfram also recorded six strikeouts and currently is tied for second with 73 strikeouts this season. He went five innings and allowed three hits and one run exiting with a 2-1 lead.
Andrew Click tossed the next two innings and the Panthers added a run in the sixth. Click fanned two batters and allowed no hits.
Jonathan Cheshire picked up his sixth save of the season throwing the final two innings retiring all six batters he faced with three strikeouts. DU pitchers retired the final 12 Marygrove hitters to end the game.
Davenport got on the board in the first as
Austin Petravicius singled to short and
Andrew Figueroa followed with a single up the middle moving Petravicius to third.
Nolan Page then lifted a sacrifice fly to center to score the first run. The Panthers added a run in the third as Figueroa doubled down the right field line to start it off. Figueroa moved to third on a groundout to second and
Brian Sobieski hit a sacrifice fly to right.
The Mustangs scored their run in the fifth as Chase Younkin had a RBI on a grounder that was misplayed. Wolfram really avoided a big inning in the Mustang fourth as the bases were loaded with no outs after a pair of walks and a single. He then struck out the next three batters swinging to keep the lead.
Cameron Bair singled with two outs in the sixth to continue the inning and
Anthony DiPonio hit a missile to the left center gap scoring pinch runner
Luke Lalumia with the third run. Davenport finished the scoring in the eighth as Bair doubled home pinch runner
Aaron Fadden who ran for
Brandon Larkin-Guilfoyle who was hit by a pitch.
Figueroa coming off WHAC Player of the Week honors reached base all four plate appearances with two singles, his seventh double of the season and a hit by pitch. Bair hit his sixth double of the season finishing 2-for-4.
