Panthers Drop a Pair at Madonna

DU slips to fifth in the WHAC

LIVONIA, Mich. - The Davenport baseball team could not ride the momentum of a win on Saturday at Madonna as they were swept by the Crusaders in a doubleheader on Sunday at Illitch Ballpark. The losses were particularly painful as the Panthers went from second to fifth in the WHAC standings with a 13-5 record in the conference. Northwestern Ohio has a 3 1/2 game lead over DU followed by Indiana Tech (14-3), Concordia (13-4) and Madonna (12-4).

The pitching on Sunday was not at a high level for Davenport as they gave up 20 runs on the day. Madonna won 11-7 in game one and 9-3 in game two. Krystien Johnson-Batillana had his roughest outing of the season (5-2) going three innings and allowing seven hits and six earned runs. Andrew Click in relief went five innings and allowed five earned runs with two walks and three strikeouts.

Nolan Page and Brian Sobieski drove in a pair of runs in game one as each had a double and home run. Austin Petravicius went 3-for-5 with two runs and a RBI. Cameron Bair went 2-for-4 as DU pounded out 14 hits.

Justin Palmbos slipped to 2-3 on the mound this season in game two. He allowed six hits and seven earned runs in 3.1 innings. Caleb Leach allowed two unearned runs in 2.2 innings and two strikeouts. Brady VanSloten threw the last two innings and allowed one hit and struck out three.

Petravicius went 3-for-5 with a double in the nightcap. Jake Bozzo also had a double in two at-bats. Bair finished 2-for-4 with a home run. Matt Hoge also hit a long ball and scored twice. Jeremy Vasquez went 2-for-4 with a RBI.
