DU wins regular season home finale over Rochester

The Panthers finished 20-1 at home winning 9-0 on Sunday

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport baseball team concluded a very successful home campaign on Sunday with a 9-0 win over Rochester to complete the three-game weekend sweep. The Panthers were 20-1 at Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex this season and have won eight straight games improving to 32-13 overall and 21-6 in the WHAC. The highlight of the day however was having the Miracle League baseball players in attendance and getting introduced pregame and also getting to run the bases afterwards.

Davenport took a 1-0 lead into the bottom of the fourth and then scored five times to open it up against the Warriors. Anthony DiPonio had a RBI single through the left side to plate the game's second run and a fielding error opened the floodgates off the bat of Jeremy Vasquez. Five of the six runs credited to starter Ty Robinson were unearned and he was the tough luck loser on the mound (1-3). DU capitalized on the error as Matt Hoge doubled home a run and Nolan Page had a two-run single to center. Andrew Figueroa had a RBI single up the box and after four hits in the fourth it was a 6-0 lead.

Brandon Larkin-Guilfoyle hit his 11th career home run and ninth of the season just inside the right field pole on the first pitch he saw in the bottom of the fifth. Davenport also scored twice in the sixth as Nolan Bryant stole third on a strikeout and a throwing error trying to throw him out went into left field allowing him to score. The team also executed a double steal as Luke Lalumia swiped second and Jacob Buchberger scored the team's ninth run.

The pitching duties were manned by starter Andrew Click as well as Caleb Leach and Brady VanSloten for the combined shutout. Click went seven innings and allowed four hits while striking out a career-best eight batters. Leach recorded a strikeout in his one inning and VanSloten struck out the side with a walk in the ninth.

Page reached base four times going 3-for-3 jumping his season average to .322. He had a double, two runs, two RBI, one walk and one stolen base. Figueroa went 2-for-3 with an RBI. DiPonio and Hoge also had multi-hit games for the Panthers who had 13 base hits against the Warriors.
